Sport and Exercise Psychology (SEP) combines theoretical foundations, research methodologies, and practical applications. This curriculum examines cognitive, emotional, physiological, and social aspects affecting athletic and fitness activities, along with how physical movement impacts psychological states. Most SEP graduate students have undergraduate backgrounds in Kinesiology or Psychology, choosing UNCG to develop expertise in optimizing human performance through contemporary SEP principles.
The M.S. program specializing in SEP is designed for professionals seeking deeper understanding in sport and exercise psychology.
For more than 100 years, the Kinesiology Department has been fundamental to the University's identity. Originating in 1892 as the Physiology and Physical Culture Department at the Women's College, it championed the then-innovative belief that physical activity was essential for women's health. While the department's name has transformed alongside institutional growth, its central purpose of advancing physical health education continues unchanged.
