The Master of Arts in English equips students for careers in community college or high school teaching, advanced PhD studies, or various humanities-related professions including business, law, and arts management.
The program offers three adaptable study tracks - Thesis, Teaching Composition, and Careers in the Humanities - allowing students to tailor their education to personal interests and career aspirations.
The department holds membership in prestigious organizations including the Association of Departments of English, the South Atlantic Association of Departments of English, and the Associated Writing Programs.
In 2014, Academic Analytics ranked UNCG's English department 45th among over 200 research-intensive programs for faculty scholarly output.

Applicants must have Official transcripts of all previous work showing a major or graduate work in English, with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 in the undergraduate major.
English Language Proficiency: TOEFL: internet based - 79, or paper based - 550. A score of at least 6.5 is required on the IELTS.
