The Social Work Honors Program is an advanced academic initiative focused on research, practice, and policy work that supports the core mission of the profession.
Social work is a dedicated field aimed at empowering individuals to thrive in various environments, whether within families, groups, workplaces, or communities. The UNC Charlotte BSW Program holds accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education, the national authority for social work education standards. This bachelor's degree equips students with skills for generalist social work practice, serving individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. Generalist practice involves applying diverse intervention methods tailored to different social systems and client needs. Graduates deliver essential services including assessments, counseling, crisis response, referrals, mediation, and advocacy for diverse populations across all ages. Career opportunities span multiple settings such as hospitals, group homes, mental health facilities, addiction treatment centers, child welfare agencies, senior care facilities, and educational institutions. The program emphasizes professional ethics and values in a global context, championing human rights for marginalized groups affected by factors like race, economic status, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, and ability. A BSW also creates a strong foundation for students planning to pursue graduate-level social work education.
