The program prepares graduates to earn North Carolina's Initial Professional License (IPL) for teaching in grades 6-9, specializing in one of four subjects: English language arts, math, science, or social studies. Completers demonstrate competency in North Carolina's Professional Teaching Standards and fulfill all ten INTASC Standards for beginning educators, covering essential areas like content knowledge, student growth, diverse learning needs, teaching methods, classroom management, technology integration, lesson planning, evaluation techniques, professional reflection, and community engagement. Through targeted coursework and hands-on field experiences across diverse environments, participants gain and implement research-backed strategies in adolescent development and middle school education.
