The Department of Nutrition stands out as an international pioneer in research and education, distinguished by its exclusive position as the sole U.S. nutrition department housed within both a public health school and a medical school.
We employ cutting-edge, cross-disciplinary methods that foster partnerships across fields, drawing upon the distinct health perspectives of both institutions. This gives our department exceptional scientific and policy scope, covering everything from cellular biology to societal impacts and translating discoveries into real-world applications. Our faculty and students conduct work across North Carolina and internationally, reaching communities in China, India, Malawi, Spain, The Philippines, and beyond. The Practice and Continuing Education (PACE) Division assists students pursuing Registered Dietitian certification, advances nutrition practice through our service programs, and offers professional development opportunities for current practitioners.
