The Mathematics Department provides graduate education programs culminating in master of arts, master of science, and doctor of philosophy degrees. Students can incorporate or skip the master's degree when pursuing a doctorate. Graduate studies may be completed entirely within the department or, when suitable, under the guidance of an approved advisor from a related field. The Mathematics Department is located in Phillips Hall and Chapman Hall. Each year, the department awards numerous teaching assistantships and fellowships. Candidates seeking financial support are also eligible for various University fellowships distributed through The Graduate School's institution-wide selection process.
