Students can complete both the J.D. and Master of Public Administration degrees through a four-year joint program, which includes coursework and a three-month internship. This collaborative initiative involves the UNC School of Law and the UNC Master of Public Administration program. Applicants must secure separate admission to both the law school and M.P.A. program. The J.D. requires 86 semester hours, with the option to count up to nine hours from M.P.A. courses. Similarly, the M.P.A. demands 54 semester hours, allowing up to 15 hours from J.D. coursework. With an approved joint degree study plan, students can fulfill both degrees with a combined total of 116 semester hours. Note that all requirements from both programs must be satisfied before either degree is conferred.
The minimum requirements are a bachelor's degree (based on a four-year curriculum) completed before graduate study begins or its international equivalent with an accredited institution; an average grade of B (cumulative GPA 3.0) or better.
The required minimum total score on the exams are internet-based TOEFL exam = 90, The IELTS exam = 7.
