The Ph.D. program equips students for academic careers in teaching and research within Religious Studies. Doctoral candidates join one of the Department's specialized areas and must complete its specific requirements. All students are advised to take courses across different departments or curricula, including complementary studies in other disciplines or within Religious Studies. Islamic Studies adopts a worldwide, cross-disciplinary perspective to examine Islamic faith and Muslim societies. Through literary, historical, sociological, anthropological, and other analytical methods, students investigate diverse Islamic religious practices, from scholarly to folk traditions. Additionally, students collaborate with faculty to cultivate their specialized interests within Islamic Studies.
