The Bachelor of Arts in Music provides a highly adaptable program that allows students to combine diverse fields of study. Those enrolled in this degree frequently pair it with majors such as biology, chemistry, history, economics, pre-medicine, pre-pharmacy, pre-dentistry, global studies, psychology, and numerous other disciplines. Requiring fewer courses than the Bachelor of Music, this program is ideal for students who want to explore music at the university level while dedicating time to another academic pursuit. UNC's Voice Area maintains a distinguished legacy of artistic achievement and energy. Our vocal studios are all located in the modern Kenan Music Building (constructed in 2008). The department flourishes with approximately 80-90 vocal students and two class voice sections. Notable clinicians in recent years have featured Metropolitan Opera luminaries like Christine Goerke, Anthony Dean Griffey, Nathan Gunn, Dawn Upshaw, David Daniels, Frederica von Stade, and Angela Brown. Additional visiting artists include Gabriel Kahane, Elizabeth Bishop, Patricia Miller, Donna Roll, Eric Mitchko, John Patrick, Michael Maniaci, along with virtual sessions featuring Karen Hall and George Shirley.
