Students pursuing a Global Studies (GLBL) degree must fulfill all General College requirements. The major requires completion of 10 courses total. GLBL 210 serves as the mandatory introductory core course. Beyond this, students take two additional core courses from different academic departments, offering diverse perspectives on global and international topics. The remaining seven courses form the student's specialization, with four focusing on a chosen theme and three on a geographic region. At least five of these seven concentration courses must be upper-level (numbered 200 or higher).
Each student selects both a thematic focus and a regional specialization. Among the seven concentration courses, five must be upper-level. For the thematic component, students choose four courses from one of these four focus areas:
International relations, state systems, and activism; Global markets, commerce, and growth; Worldwide health and ecological systems; Cross-border cultures, identities, and creative expressions
All students will be expected to have completed the pre-university curriculum (Secondary School/High School) in their country prior to enrolling at UNC-Chapel Hill. English Language Tests: TOEFL minimum is 100; IELTS minimum is 7.0; PTE minimum is 68.
