College students can opt for a Master of Arts in Middle Eastern Studies, which combines a four-year bachelor's degree in their chosen major with a two-year graduate program, completing both in five years at the University of Chicago. Undergraduates choosing this path enter concurrent residency starting in Autumn Quarter of their fourth year, maintaining this status for three consecutive quarters. After earning their BA at the end of the fourth year, they continue as graduate students for three more consecutive quarters during the second year of the Middle Eastern Studies program. Earning both a BA in a major field and an MA in Middle Eastern Studies isn't guaranteed for Chicago undergraduates. This opportunity is reserved for exceptional students who have shown outstanding academic performance during their undergraduate studies and have made substantial progress toward completing their bachelor's degree requirements. The program imposes rigorous academic expectations, and applicants are thoroughly evaluated based on their undergraduate major performance and master's degree prerequisites.
