The Classics Department provides a Bachelor of Arts program featuring five distinct specialization tracks. Each concentration mandates studying classical Greek and/or Latin up to at least the intermediate level, along with completing CLAS 391, the Junior Seminar. This culminating course unites all majors to explore a unifying theme that showcases the field's interdisciplinary nature, incorporating both Greek and Roman sources across textual and material culture. The specialization tracks diverge significantly in their core focuses and requirements. The Greek, Latin, and Combined Greek & Latin tracks emphasize original language and literature studies. Conversely, the Classical Archaeology concentration centers on ancient Mediterranean art, architecture, and archaeological findings. The Classical Civilization track offers a comprehensive overview of diverse aspects of Greek and Roman societies. Beyond its primary programs, the Department actively supports interdisciplinary studies, contributing substantially to Archaeology majors/minors through the Archaeology Curriculum, as well as to Art History, Comparative Literature, Religious Studies, and Women's and Gender Studies programs.
All students will be expected to have completed the pre-university curriculum (Secondary School/High School) in their country prior to enrolling at UNC-Chapel Hill. English Language Tests: TOEFL minimum is 100; IELTS minimum is 7.0; PTE minimum is 68.
