The field of Classics encompasses the examination of ancient Greek and Roman languages, literature, and societies. Students can pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Classics, along with minors in Classical Archaeology, Classical Studies, Greek, or Latin. The Classics major provides four specialized tracks: Ancient Greek Studies, Classical Archaeology, Classical Studies, Greek Studies, and Roman Studies. Those considering graduate studies in Classics or Classical Archaeology should seek guidance from the department advisor early in their academic journey. The department strongly encourages students to experience Italy or Greece firsthand through various educational programs that showcase these civilizations' archaeological remains. This can be achieved via CSULB study abroad opportunities or programs from other institutions, such as College Year at Athens, the American School of Classical Studies summer session, the Aegean Institute, the Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies in Rome, or participating in archaeological excavations. With departmental approval, coursework from these programs may count toward CSULB degree requirements.
