The Master of Science in Urban Studies (MS) Program immerses students in the multidisciplinary exploration of cities and urbanization processes. With concentrations in anthropology, cultural resource management, historic preservation, and urban planning, students can craft individualized study paths utilizing resources from various departments and UNO's diverse faculty. Graduates find careers in historic preservation, cultural resource management, arts, urban planning, public administration, and government. The program also equips students for advanced research toward doctoral degrees in urban studies or related disciplines like urban planning, anthropology, sociology, and hospitality management.

The urban planning concentration, administered by the Department of Planning and Urban Studies, equips students with essential skills to transform urban and regional spaces through neighborhood renewal, land use strategies, economic development, transportation systems, disaster preparedness, and environmental planning. Urban planners work to harmonize cultural heritage conservation with progressive urban development.
