The master's program equips future counselors for a distinctive career focused on preventing psychological issues, intervening early when concerns arise, and empowering individuals. Counselors embrace a wellness-oriented approach that recognizes mental health as a spectrum, with practitioners guiding clients toward optimal wellbeing. This perspective treats emotional challenges as natural aspects of human development rather than pathological conditions.
The M.Ed. curriculum requires at least 60 credit hours, typically completed in 2.5-3 years. Students complete foundational coursework, specialize in either school or clinical mental health counseling, and gain practical experience through field placements.
