The Sociology Department provides a Master of Arts program designed to equip students with advanced training while meeting the professional demands of the New Orleans area. This dual-focused program readies students for doctoral studies in Sociology while simultaneously enhancing career prospects by refining research and analytical capabilities. The curriculum encompasses broad sociological studies with particular emphasis on Gender Sociology and Environment/Disaster Sociology. Flexible part-time enrollment is available, with mandatory courses frequently offered during evening hours. Admissions for new graduate students occur during Fall, Spring, or Summer terms.
Those selecting the thesis track must fulfill at least 30 graduate-level credit hours, incorporating core requirements and elective courses. Additionally, they are required to develop a thesis and successfully defend it through an oral examination focused on their research topic.
