The University of New Orleans provides diverse Latin American and Caribbean Studies programs encompassing Spanish language instruction, social sciences, humanities, business courses, and scientific studies. Students can opt for either a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies (BA/IS) with a Latin American and Caribbean Studies specialization or complement another major with this minor program.
The BA/IS Latin American & Caribbean Studies track aims to cultivate students' comprehensive knowledge of the region's history, cultural traditions, political systems, and societal structures.
This specialization equips graduates for professional opportunities in global commerce, legal fields, economic growth initiatives, media, teaching, and community support services. It also establishes a strong academic base for advanced studies in Latin American & Caribbean topics or specific social science fields.
Administered through the College of Liberal Arts, the BAIS Program oversees the Latin American and Caribbean Studies minor, which demonstrates students' core knowledge of the region and Spanish language proficiency. The curriculum regularly features interdisciplinary courses across social sciences, humanities, business, and sciences, all centered on Latin American and Caribbean themes.
