The Master of Arts (MA) in Latin American Studies (MALAS) enables students to investigate the diverse cultures, languages, histories, and societies of Latin America. This program grants access to an extensive and varied faculty, with course offerings spanning more than thirty departments and nine Colleges/Schools at UNM. Students are empowered to create interdisciplinary study plans tailored to their specific interests. Through LAS concentrations, learners can personalize their academic journey to align with their scholarly and career aspirations while acquiring essential research skills and specialized knowledge. Some students pursue the MALAS as preparation for doctoral studies or professional school, while others utilize it as a foundational degree for careers in education, government, business, tourism, advocacy, or international organizations.
