The Department of Mexican American Studies has partnered with the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health to offer a combined degree program. Qualified students can earn both a Master's in Public Health (MPH) and a Master's in Mexican American Studies within three years by completing sixty-five units. Applicants must satisfy the admission requirements for both programs separately.
This dual degree equips students with specialized knowledge about Mexican American and Latino communities in the U.S., enabling them to create culturally-sensitive public health initiatives and policies for Latino populations. The curriculum combines academic research on Mexican Americans with practical training for professionals and graduate students seeking to improve services for Southwestern Mexican American communities.
The Mexican American Studies component focuses on Latina/o Health and Wellness, training students to perform culturally-aware health research and design health initiatives specifically for Latino populations.
