The Department of Languages, Cultures, and Literatures provides Master's and Doctoral programs in French studies. These degree programs deliver thorough, in-depth education in French literary traditions, critical approaches, and theoretical frameworks. Our faculty's scholarly work and instructional focus span multiple disciplines, connecting literary and cultural examination with areas like philosophical aesthetics, film theory, musical analysis, legal frameworks, historical politics, social anthropology, psychological theories, identity studies, and colonial/postcolonial research. Faculty expertise encompasses the full historical spectrum of French and Francophone scholarship - from Medieval and Renaissance periods through Enlightenment and post-Revolutionary eras to modern Francophone studies. Their teaching and research engage with diverse Francophone regions including North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, Quebec, the Caribbean, and immigrant populations in France.
