The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program in Organization, Information, and Learning Sciences focuses on advanced research training. This degree equips students with the skills to conceptualize, execute, and document innovative theoretical and practical research within their chosen specialization. The curriculum and final dissertation emphasize theoretical frameworks, research methodologies, and novel investigations.
PhD candidates must exhibit research proficiency suitable for academic scholarship. A student's advisory committee evaluates and confirms these research capabilities before dissertation work begins.
The doctoral dissertation must showcase independent research capabilities and scholarly writing proficiency. Students may select either conventional or alternative (hybrid) dissertation formats in collaboration with their committee. The work should constitute an in-depth exploration of an important issue, making a contribution worthy of publication in the field's literature. A hybrid dissertation may incorporate multiple interconnected articles, either prepared for submission or already published. All dissertations require introductory and concluding sections and must follow the manuscript formatting standards outlined in UNM's official guidelines. Copyright regulations must be observed when including previously published material.
