The doctoral program focuses on communication as a field of social scientific study. Alumni pursue academic roles or professional paths in governmental agencies, media outlets, and various institutions as analysts, advisors, and decision-makers. Candidates are required to show comprehensive understanding of communication in diverse settings, along with expertise in a chosen concentration. Available specializations currently encompass health communication, information science, educational communication, mass media studies, emergency and risk communication, plus strategic and corporate communication.

Our admissions committee requires that the recommender upload a separate letter of recommendation that supplements the letter of recommendation common form.
The GRE is not required for admission into this program for the 2022-2023 academic year. For the Graduate School, the minimum acceptable TOEFL score is 550 (paper-based) 213 (computer-based), or 79 (internet-based). The minimum IELTS score is 6.5
An overall grade point average of 2.75 on undergraduate work and 3.00 on all graduate work is required by the Graduate School.
