NSME provides Master's degree programs with three options: Plan I (thesis-based), Plan II (project-based/non-thesis), or Plan III (coursework-only), along with a PhD program. Below are the general degree requirements. The Nanoscience and Microsystems Engineering Ph.D. program equips students for careers in the growing fields of Nanotechnology and Microsystems. This interdisciplinary initiative involves multiple departments from the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Engineering, and Anderson School of Management, featuring many cross-listed and collaboratively taught courses. Participating departments include: Biochemistry, Biology, Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering, Chemical and Biological Engineering, Chemistry and Chemical Biology, Computer Science, Earth and Planetary Sciences, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mathematics and Statistics, Mechanical Engineering, and Physics and Astronomy. Students in this program can maintain their faculty advisors, funding sources, and research collaborations within these departments. A wide range of elective courses are available across these disciplines. The program also includes faculty participation from the Health Sciences Center and UNM Cancer Research Center.
