North Dakota State University (NDSU) provides a cross-disciplinary graduate program awarding Master of Science (M.S.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in Materials and Nanotechnology (MNT). This curriculum features mandatory MNT core classes, supplementary elective courses, comprehensive written and oral qualifying exams, an original Ph.D. dissertation involving innovative research in materials and nanotechnology, plus a final dissertation defense. The doctoral program mandates completion of at least 90 graduate credit hours.

Qualification Requirements

Hold a baccalaureate or graduate degree from an educational institution of recognized standing. Students with a degree in the disciplines of chemistry, engineering, material science and engineering, physics, polymer science, polymer engineering, or related fields will be considered for admission.

At the baccalaureate or graduate level, have earned a cumulative grade point average (GPA) in all courses of at least 3.0 or equivalent.

Applicants are also strongly encouraged to provide scores for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) in the formal application.

At the baccalaureate level, the applicant must have earned a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0, or equivalent, to attain full standing in a graduate degree program. Applicants whose last degree completed is a graduate degree may be admitted in full standing if the final GPA of that degree is at least 3.0 or equivalent.
