Earn a Master of Arts in Teaching for secondary education to develop the expertise, practical skills, and confidence needed for modern classroom instruction. This program combines subject mastery, educational research, theoretical foundations, and hands-on fieldwork to prepare you for diverse learning environments. Through internships in urban and rural schools serving varied cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic populations, you'll cultivate inclusive teaching practices that promote collaboration and academic growth. The M.A.T. program provides certification for teaching specialized subjects including English, mathematics, sciences, social studies, world languages, and fine arts. Our educator preparation cultivates teacher-leaders who excel in classroom practice while advancing educational excellence.
UNH offers flexible entry points - either as a graduate student or through our accelerated master's pathway, where undergraduates can start their teaching preparation early with foundational coursework and field experience in education.
The undergraduate record. The undergraduate overall minimum grade point average for admission is 3.0. The undergraduate grade point average of students admitted to the graduate programs in teacher education is approximately 3.55 (based on 2020 admissions).
English Language Score:
Minimum score requirements are as follows: TOEFL (Computer-based): 213; TOEFL (Internet-based): 80; IELTS (International English Language Testing System): 6.5; TOEFL ITP (Institution Administered): On case-by-case basis; TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication): On case-by-case basis; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: 59.
Applications must be completed by the following deadlines in order to be reviewed for admission: Fall: April 15; Spring: November 1; Summer: April 15.
