The Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (M.A.L.S.) program offers a unique interdisciplinary approach, allowing students to craft personalized academic paths. You'll select courses university-wide that align with your chosen theme, perspective, or cultural movement, culminating in either a research thesis or creative applied project. Past students have investigated diverse areas including visual arts, American culture, humanities, environmental ethics, workforce studies, religious thought, and metropolitan development. Their final projects have ranged from autobiographical works and films to original music, curriculum designs, research papers, and beyond. Tailored for learners pursuing intellectual growth, personal interests, or new academic domains, M.A.L.S. provides an adaptable yet rigorous cross-disciplinary education.

Admission to the master of arts in liberal studies is selective. A bachelor's degree is required for admission. Students will be asked to provide relevant transcripts of their educational experience, a resume, and letters of recommendation. They will also be asked to submit a brief essay describing why they are particularly interested in this program and indicating the sort of interdisciplinary focus or area of learning in which they might like to concentrate their study.

Minimum score requirements are as follows: TOEFL (Computer-based): 213; TOEFL (Internet-based): 80; IELTS (International English Language Testing System): 6.5; TOEFL ITP (Institution Administered): On case-by-case basis; TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication): On case-by-case basis; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: 59.
Applications must be completed by the following deadlines in order to be reviewed for admission: Fall: July 1; Spring: December 1; Summer: April 1.
