Idaho State University provides students with the chance to earn an interdisciplinary master's degree (M.A., M.S., M.Ed.), designated as Interdisciplinary Studies. The degree title will reflect the chosen academic focus areas.
To qualify, students must complete at least 30 credit hours, with a minimum of 10 credits from two participating departments. Admission requires approval from each involved department. Prospective students should consult with potential departments before creating their interdisciplinary program plan.
While 10 credits per department is the minimum requirement, departments may mandate additional coursework as part of their participation agreement. Students must submit their initial study plan to the Graduate School within their first academic year.
Interdisciplinary degrees follow the same standards as traditional programs. Students may complete an interdisciplinary thesis, earning 3-5 credits per department. The final oral examination requires participation from each department and a Graduate Faculty Representative from an unrelated department.
