Our doctoral program in history equips students for careers in historical scholarship, specializing in U.S. history and colonial American studies. The curriculum explores diverse historical periods, regions, and themes, with notable expertise in cultural studies, women's history, religious history, Atlantic world studies, and African American history. You'll enhance your skills in historical research methodologies and scholarly writing, develop proficiency in a foreign language, and craft a dissertation under the guidance of distinguished faculty at one of the country's premier history departments. Designed for aspiring professional historians, this Ph.D. program requires all candidates to focus on U.S. history/colonial America, though students with exceptional secondary field expertise may pursue comparative studies involving these areas.
