Veterinary technology educates students to become veterinary technicians, who serve as animal healthcare professionals. These technicians support veterinarians by providing complete medical care for animal patients, handling tasks ranging from blood draws and X-rays to administering anesthesia and dental procedures. As essential members of veterinary teams, vet techs perform all duties except diagnosing conditions, prescribing treatments, or conducting surgeries—responsibilities reserved for licensed veterinarians. Students can pursue advanced specialization in fields like anesthesia support, surgical assistance, behavioral therapy, and emergency care.

UNH's veterinary technology program holds accreditation from the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), enabling graduates to sit for the Veterinary Technician National Exam and earn professional certification. The curriculum emphasizes practical experience, with students interacting with animals starting their first day. UNH offers exceptional large animal resources, including on-campus equine and dairy herds, while small animal training occurs both at the university's PAWS Veterinary Clinic and nearby shelters. After earning their associate degree, qualified students may transition into UNH's four-year animal science program, completing a bachelor's degree with two additional years of full-time study.
