Students in the Pre-Veterinary Medicine program will gain the foundational knowledge required for veterinary school admission through a comprehensive curriculum. This includes core animal science subjects like anatomy, nutrition, physiology, health, genetics, and behavior, supplemented with essential prerequisites such as calculus, chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, and physics. The demand for veterinarians continues to grow, addressing critical needs like combating zoonotic diseases, caring for over 100 million household pets, and managing livestock to meet global food security challenges.
The program emphasizes integrating animal science principles with biology, chemistry, and mathematics across key disciplines including physiology, nutrition, genetics, health, behavior, and environmental management. Students will develop critical thinking, quantitative reasoning, and scientific problem-solving skills relevant to animal health and the One Health initiative. They'll learn to effectively communicate animal science and veterinary topics both verbally and in writing. The curriculum prepares graduates to understand scientific principles, socioeconomic factors, and ethical considerations in animal sciences, particularly concerning One Health, while equipping them for advanced veterinary education. Students will cultivate collaborative and independent learning skills, drawing from diverse viewpoints to develop innovative solutions for challenges in animal sciences and veterinary medicine.
