Forestry offers a dynamic and fulfilling profession where experts tackle critical natural resource and environmental issues. In just two years, Forest Technology students gain practical skills by studying forest ecosystems, tree cultivation, wildlife habitats, geospatial methods, timber production, and wood properties. The curriculum covers natural resource assessment, forest operation planning and oversight, land mapping, management strategy development, and addressing forest health concerns—all grounded in conservation and sustainable practices.
The SAF-accredited forest technology program provides extensive fieldwork opportunities across UNH's vast 3,000-acre outdoor classroom. Students enjoy a 2:1 ratio of outdoor to indoor learning, engaging directly with this hands-on environment. Regular interactions with industry professionals expose students to diverse forestry career paths.
Upon earning their associate degree, graduates often launch directly into meaningful forestry careers. Others opt to continue their education, transferring into UNH's bachelor's program where they can complete a four-year forestry degree in just two additional years of study.
Each student must have their official high school diploma or general equivalency diploma.
