The Bachelor of Science in Forestry equips students to become leaders in managing forest resources, encompassing everything from water systems to wildlife habitats to timber production. Combining hands-on fieldwork with academic instruction, students master fundamental biophysical and ecological concepts governing forest ecosystems, integrating this understanding with socio-economic strategies to responsibly oversee, protect, and rehabilitate natural environments.
Montana's distinctive landscapes serve as living laboratories, providing students with practical coursework, self-directed studies, professional internships, and research initiatives that open doors to varied career paths.
Forestry graduates pursue roles as ecosystem analysts, tree cultivation experts, timber operations supervisors, land-use strategists, wildfire management professionals, resource assessment coordinators, park conservation officers, or specialists in grassland and soil preservation. The program holds accreditation from the Society of American Foresters and fulfills the U.S. Civil Service Commission's standards (440 series) for professional forester certification, enabling graduates to work with federal entities like the U.S. Forest Service, BLM, and BIA, as well as state organizations and private sector employers.
