Forestry is a scientific discipline, artistic practice, and applied field focused on stewarding forest lands and their natural resources for human advantage. These benefits stem from diverse forest assets - timber, water systems, wildlife habitats, recreational spaces, grazing areas, and environmental features. Forestry professionals serve as custodians of these multifaceted resources. Our core educational mission is to deliver comprehensive training for effectively managing complex forest ecosystems. The forest resources management specialization offers training in overseeing diverse wilderness resources. Beyond mandatory coursework, approximately 6 elective credits allow for either broad exploration or focused study in specific forestry domains. Potential specialization areas include: forest biology (covering plant physiology, morphology, ecology, genetics, tree nutrition, and soils); forest business (encompassing economics, accounting, finance, marketing, and management); forest economics (integrating business administration and social sciences); forest inventory (involving mathematics, statistics, and computing); wildland recreation (combining natural and social sciences); and wildlife management (focusing on ecological and botanical principles).
