The Master of Arts concentration in rhetoric and writing studies caters to students seeking to enhance their writing abilities while exploring theoretical frameworks from rhetoric, composition, and writing studies. Complementary studies in linguistics, literature, or literacy studies provide additional depth to writing education. Learners can opt for either a thesis or non-thesis track.
This specialization prepares graduates for diverse careers such as technical writing, literacy education, composition instruction, and rhetorical analysis. Participants frequently engage in publishing, conference presentations, and writing internships across businesses, community organizations, and academic settings. Alumni have secured positions at community colleges, private and public sector roles, and doctoral programs nationwide.

The curriculum ensures comprehensive understanding of either: historical contexts, literary forms, and critical perspectives in English-language literatures; writing studies theories and methods; approaches to public engagement through literature and rhetoric; or linguistic principles and methodologies. Students will develop focused expertise in a chosen sub-discipline within literature, writing, public engagement, or language studies through primary and secondary source mastery.
