Brown University's Literary Arts Program is designed to give graduate writing students the greatest flexibility for creative and intellectual growth. Participants enroll in two classes each term: a writing workshop and an elective. These electives can be chosen from Brown's entire course catalog. Previous students have selected classes across disciplines including literature, history, philosophy, theater arts, media studies, religion, and foreign languages. Studio art classes and translation workshops frequently serve as suitable options, along with specialized workshops covering unique topics or different writing styles.
Graduates of non-U.S. colleges and universities who have completed the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor's degree may apply for admission to the Brown University Graduate School.
Regarding TOEFL, the recommended minimum score for admission consideration is 577 on the paper-based test and 90 on the Internet-based test. For IELTS, the recommended minimum overall band score is 7.
