The UNH M.F.A. writing program is a prestigious, intimate program that carefully selects its students. We prioritize direct mentorship between accomplished faculty members and gifted writers. Students enjoy numerous benefits such as our visiting authors series, offering interactions with leading contemporary poets, fiction writers, and nonfiction authors. Opportunities include paid arts internships, editorial roles at Barnstorm online journal, teaching assistantships, tuition support, and grant funding. Most students graduate within 2-3 years.

Our program has served as a springboard for countless poets, novelists, short story authors, essayists, and memoirists. This exclusive, top-tier program fosters close working relationships between distinguished faculty and promising writers. The typical completion time ranges from two to three years.
International applicants must hold a four-year baccalaureate degree or its equivalent as a precondition for applying to any of our graduate programs. In some cases, you may also need a master’s degree or its equivalent.
English Language Score:
Minimum score requirements are as follows: TOEFL (Computer-based): 213; TOEFL (Internet-based): 80; IELTS (International English Language Testing System): 6.5; TOEFL ITP (Institution Administered): On case-by-case basis; TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication): On case-by-case basis; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: 59.
Applications must be completed by the following deadlines in order to be reviewed for admission: Fall: Jan. 15.
