This graduate program maintains a tight-knit community with just 70-80 students, fostering close relationships and personalized faculty guidance. The English Department provides four specialized tracks in its M.A. program, enabling students to tailor their studies to individual research interests. Regardless of your chosen focus, you'll work with dedicated faculty mentors who specialize in diverse areas including rhetoric, composition theory, British/American literature, sociolinguistics, cultural studies, digital media, gender studies, and public engagement.
Students will gain comprehensive understanding across multiple historical periods, literary genres, and critical approaches to English-language literatures worldwide. Alternatively, they may develop expertise in writing studies, public engagement methodologies, or linguistic analysis. The program emphasizes developing specialized mastery within chosen sub-fields of literature, writing, public engagement, or language studies through intensive work with primary and secondary sources.
Applicants to the English M.A. program must hold a bachelor's degree with an undergraduate major or minor in English or its equivalent and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Minimum score requirements: TOEFL: 550 (paper) or 79 (internet), IELTS: 6.5 (academic version).
