The University of Nevada, Reno's counseling program aims to train skilled, ethically-minded counselors with cultural competence, preparing them to deliver outstanding services across diverse community and private practice environments.
This CACREP-accredited clinical mental health counseling track requires 67 credit hours, equipping future practitioners with comprehensive skills for community-based client work. Our curriculum delivers rigorous instruction in clinical assessment, case conceptualization, and therapeutic planning, fostering the self-awareness and technical abilities needed for personalized client care.
Throughout their academic journey, students cultivate the professional qualities and conduct that define exceptional counseling practitioners.
Trainees will master ethical and legal counseling principles, consistently applying professional standards in their clinical work.
Aligned with ACA multicultural guidelines, students build cultural awareness and practical skills to become effective modern practitioners across clinical, family, and educational settings.
Participants will acquire expertise in human development theories and learn to implement these concepts in therapeutic practice.
The program develops competency in understanding career dynamics and the interplay between psychological wellbeing and life responsibilities including employment, education, and family.
Students will study counseling theory and research while cultivating practical skills for professional therapeutic relationships.
