The clinical psychology program at the University of Nevada, Reno has held APA accreditation since 1972 and was among the founding members of the Academy of Clinical Science. Our program follows a clinical science approach, prioritizing rigorous training in psychological research methods. Students are paired with research advisors immediately upon enrollment. To foster practical research skills, comprehensive exams involve developing a grant proposal and completing a scholarly paper (empirical study, literature review, or book chapter). Students then progress through a master's thesis and doctoral dissertation - requirements intentionally structured to cultivate independent research capabilities.
Our curriculum encourages innovative research and practical applications of psychological theory across diverse real-world challenges. Both faculty and students contribute meaningfully to advancing research methods, therapeutic interventions, program evaluation, scientific training, behavioral studies, and theoretical frameworks. We value these scholarly pursuits regardless of their application context.
Key program components include:
Core psychology coursework (minimum 3 classes)
Research methodology training (research design, 2 statistics courses, plus master's and doctoral research projects)
Clinical psychology coursework (minimum 4 classes)
