Our doctoral program in history enables graduate students to enhance their historical knowledge and research abilities while collaborating with distinguished faculty. Candidates pursue groundbreaking research and writing in their specialized area, culminating in a dissertation.
This Ph.D. curriculum equips students for academic careers and professional historical research. Focus areas encompass: Nevada and Western studies, U.S. history, American culture, cultural history, science history, medical history, and
selected topics in European and Latin American history.
Exhibit mastery in historical scholarship by creating original work with potential for publication or public engagement.
Show capacity to develop unique historical inquiries and assess relevant primary and secondary sources
Gain thorough knowledge of contemporary historical scholarship across geographic, temporal, and methodological fields
Acquire in-depth understanding of current methodologies and research questions in chosen specialties
Develop professional-level oral communication skills suitable for academic and conference presentations
Hold a B.A. or M.A. degree in History (or a closely related discipline) from an accredited four-year college or university. Applicants without a Master's degree applying for direct admission to our Ph.D. program must have excellent GRE scores and an exceptional academic record.
Minimum score requirements: TOEFL: 550 (paper) or 79 (internet); IELTS: 6.5 (academic version); Duolingo: 105.
