The Geology Program within UNO's Department of Geography/Geology focuses on training students in Geological Sciences. This curriculum equips learners for diverse professional paths, especially within the geosciences sector. Graduates can pursue opportunities in expanding environmental, energy, and mineral sectors, policy and education fields, or advanced academic studies. Students can earn either a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in Geology, selecting between two specialized paths: general geology or the Geology Career track.
Geology graduates enjoy numerous prospects for fulfilling careers. According to the American Geological Institute, approximately 120,000 geoscientists are currently employed across the United States. Additionally, Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projections suggest an 18% growth in geoscientist and hydrogeologist positions by 2018, outpacing the average growth rate for all professions.
