This pathway offers essential training in mathematics and physics to excel in geoscience fields requiring robust foundations in these related subjects. It effectively equips students for professional roles in geophysics or pursuing higher education through graduate programs. The B.S. Honors Program is also offered for this specialization.
The Department of Geological Sciences emphasizes instructing core Earth science principles, covering the scientific approach, interactions between Earth's systems, and humanity's present impact on these systems. Our instructors integrate contemporary scientific challenges into coursework, featuring classes on natural disasters (such as earthquakes, wildfires, and landslides) and paleoclimatology, alongside fundamental geology and geophysics courses. Many classes incorporate fieldwork or lab sessions, employing cutting-edge geochemical, field-based, and computational methods. We aim to ready students for varied career paths, spanning resource management, education, geotechnical engineering, environmental restoration, energy development, and advanced academic research.
