Geology is the scientific study of Earth's composition and processes. This field encompasses planetary formation and transformation, with a primary focus on our home planet. Geologists examine Earth's interior and surface structures, materials, and the chemical and physical interactions that shape them, applying principles from mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology to comprehend planetary systems. The Geophysics Track within the Geology Curriculum prepares students for careers in industry, advanced academic study, or government positions. To earn a Bachelor of Science degree, students must fulfill introductory geology and physics coursework (39 credits) along with upper-level requirements involving specialized depth studies, contextual electives, and broad knowledge areas (30-35 credits), complementing General Education Program mandates and totaling at least 120 credits. The department mandates a minimum grade of C- in all required geology courses for Geophysics degree candidates.
