For more than 100 years, Missouri S&T's geology and geophysics program has delivered exceptional education, practical fieldwork, and groundbreaking research opportunities across the globe. Earth's intricate systems present endless possibilities for exploration for geologists and geophysicists. These scientists examine Earth's formation and development while addressing critical environmental challenges. As a geoscientist, you could investigate offshore fossil fuel deposits, locate vital water sources for global communities, or forecast seismic events like earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and tsunamis. Missouri S&T alumni in these fields pursue careers with energy firms, mining corporations, environmental organizations, academic institutions, and government bodies including the U.S. Geological Survey, Missouri DNR, and NASA. Their work takes them worldwide, often resulting in highly rewarding professional experiences.

Qualification Requirements

Admission is selective and based on a combination of secondary school core curriculum (a set of required secondary school classes), ACT and/or SAT composite scores (if available), grade point average (GPA), and class rank percentile. (For non-ranking schools, GPA will be used to evaluate your application).
International students must fulfill the same admission requirements as domestic applicants, but standardized test scores (ACT or SAT) are not required but should be submitted if available. Meeting the minimum requirements, however, does not guarantee admission, nor does it guarantee admission to a particular program. Missouri S&T appreciates well-rounded students and evaluates each application individually.
Missouri S&T may request that you provide an official transcript evaluation from the World Education Services (WES). If this is required, it will be visible on your application checklist after submission of your application, or an admissions representative will contact you to request it.
Minimum English proficiency test score requirements are 80 for TOEFL, 6.5 for IELTS, 58 for PTE, or 105 for Duolingo. We also accept SAT ERW score minimum of 500.
