The chemistry department offers both M.S. and Ph.D. degree programs with specializations in analytical, bio-, inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry. Students can engage in cross-disciplinary research through collaborations with several university centers: the UNL Center for Materials and Nanoscience, UNL Center for Biotechnology, Nebraska Center for Environmental Toxicology, and the Nebraska Cancer Center. The environmental toxicology and cancer programs are collaborative efforts between UNL and the University of Nebraska Medical Center. This graduate program emphasizes a Research First model, prioritizing hands-on research over extensive coursework during the initial year. First-year graduate students can explore different research opportunities by rotating through various labs while simultaneously completing selected courses.
