The interdisciplinary Great Plains Studies specialization explores human-environment interactions in the region's low-population areas. Spanning from the Missouri River to the Rockies and from the Rio Grande to Canada's prairie provinces, this academic focus operates through Arts and Sciences via the Center for Great Plains Studies. This university-wide research and teaching hub, established by Nebraska's Board of Regents, enables graduate students in various UNL programs - including Agricultural Sciences, Anthropology, Architecture, Economics, Education, and Environmental Studies - to pursue this specialized credential alongside their primary degree.
