The M.S. and combined M.S./M.B.A. programs offer specialized education in economic theory, statistical techniques, and optional focus areas including agricultural markets, global commerce, environmental and resource economics, developmental economics, financial strategy, and business economics. The Ph.D. curriculum focuses on intensive study of microeconomic principles, quantitative approaches, and practical policy evaluation, alongside specialized topics like industrial economics, international trade dynamics, labor market analysis, economic growth studies, and ecological economics.
An undergraduate degree in Economics, Applied Economics, or Agricultural and Resource Economics is typical for ARE graduate students, but is not required. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) is required for admission.
Graduate Studies requires the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the IELTS if a student has not obtained an undergraduate or graduate degree at an approved English-medium institution. The minimum score required for admission to graduate study at UC Davis is 80 for the TOEFL Internet-based test and 7.0 on a 9-point scale for the IELTS.
