The interdisciplinary Great Plains Studies specialization explores human-environment interactions in the region's low-population areas. Encompassing territory from the Missouri River west to the Rocky Mountains and from the Rio Grande north through Canada's prairie provinces, this academic focus operates under the College of Arts and Sciences. The Center for Great Plains Studies, authorized by the University of Nebraska Board of Regents across all campuses, serves as the interdisciplinary hub for this regional research and instruction. Graduate students pursuing degrees in various UNL programs - including Agricultural Economics, Architecture, Communication Studies, History, and several others - can qualify for this specialization alongside their primary course of study.
