The Master of Arts in English program emphasizes writing, instruction, and literary analysis. Rigorous academic pursuits unfold against the backdrop of the Northern Rocky Mountains and Yellowstone area. Participants forge strong advisory connections with professors specializing in areas like British Literature, educational methods, Western American literature, and Composition Studies. The two-year curriculum offers the choice between completing an academic thesis (Plan A) or a professional project (Plan B).
Learners pursue this degree for diverse objectives. The English MA serves as preparation for doctoral studies in literature or composition, as well as creative writing MFA programs. Graduates often enter teaching careers at secondary or college levels, join corporate environments, or contribute to nonprofit organizations. Some students undertake the program purely for intellectual growth.
Each academic year, the department grants as many as six teaching assistantships to its most qualified candidates.
