The Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language (MA TESL) program prepares educators for advanced roles in teaching English to adult learners, whether domestically or internationally. This non-thesis graduate program does not qualify graduates for ESL certification in U.S. public school systems. MA TESL candidates engage in six credit hours of practical field experience through classroom teaching and tutoring, while also selecting specialized elective courses. The curriculum mandates two culminating projects and requires completion of 36 credit hours (12 courses) across three key domains: Foundations, Professional Core, and Methods of Language Study/Research. Note again that this is a non-thesis degree option.
For admission to the Graduate School, an applicant must hold a degree from an officially recognized degree-granting institution in the country in which it operates. Degree must be a: Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or Tertiary (postsecondary) degree that is deemed comparable to a four-year bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution.
English Proficiency: Applicants to the Teaching English as a Second Language graduate program must have a minimum TOEFL score of 100 with a 23 on the speaking section for the Internet-based test (iBT), or 600 for the paper-based test. The minimum acceptable composite score for the IELTS for applicants is 7.0.
